It was glorious weather on 16 September 2021 in Zeebrugge, ideal for a festive day in the coastal port. The christening ceremony for four new tugs of Boluda Towage Europe could not have been better planned.

The new tugboats

The VB BOLERO, VB RUMBA, VB FLANDES and VB SAMBA perfectly fit the philosophy for safe and sustainable towage operations. Safety and sustainability are an essential part of the concession agreement between Port of Zeebrugge and Boluda Towage Europe.

The new tugs comply with the TIER-III emission standards of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). This means that the emission of nitrogen oxides is reduced by 80 percent and that these tugs are part of the most sustainable tug fleet in a European port. Besides the shore connection, they are also equipped with the most advanced fire extinguishing systems.
